Elevated Craftmanship in Custom Millwork, European Exterior Doors & Fine Cabinets.

Ten generations of European woodworking expertise built into every cabinet door and architectural detail we create.

European Exterior Doors.

European Exterior Doors.

Welcome.

For Uwe Ackmann at Prime Millwork, craftsmanship is not a career – it’s a legacy. As a 10th-generation cabinetmaker, his family’s lineage stretches back centuries, carrying forward European woodworking techniques that have shaped churches, heritage buildings, and fine homes for more than 400 years. Uwe grew up surrounded by the same hand tools his ancestors used: hand-lock planes, mortise and tenon joinery, traditional connections, chisels, and centuries-old methods that are still relevant in his shop today.

Uwe also stands at the intersection of old and new. In 1992, he was named Germany’s Best Cabinetmaker, then went on to represent his country at the 1993 WorldSkills competition in Taiwan, earning 4th place worldwide. Since then, he has built a career in Canada defined by a deep respect for tradition combined with a rigorous, uncompromising adoption of only the best modern technology.

His portfolio spans residential masterpieces, high-performance exterior doors, heritage restorations, luxury custom millwork, and complex hospitality projects, including engineering his own machine to create custom corkscrew-style bar legs for a major Banff restaurant. For Uwe, craftsmanship is both art and engineering, built to last far beyond a single season of use.

Our Services.

Uwe's definition of quality.

“Quality means that a client receives not only what they expect, but what they cannot see. The look is important, but what’s inside the construction, the details hidden beneath the surface, that is where true craftsmanship is proven. My goal is simple: the work should last, it should never become a deficiency, and the client should never have a reason to complain.”

Why Prime Millwork’s European Doors Stand Apart.

Prime Millwork’s European doors stand apart because they are engineered with values rarely seen in modern production:

The Process.

Step 1

Initial Conversation & Guidance.

The process begins with discussion – understanding goals, clarifying expectations, and offering honest, experience-driven advice. If a concept won’t work, Uwe explains why and provides better options.

Step 2

Details, Drawings & Refinement.

Once the direction is clear, drawings are created and refined. Every question is addressed upfront, from construction details to hardware, thicknesses, clearances, and long-term performance considerations.

Step 3

Site Measurements.

Accurate measurements ensure the finished product integrates perfectly into its environment. This stage prevents the “surprises” that so often occur in common millwork installation.

Step 4

Material Selection & Sampling.

Materials are selected based on performance, not price. Color samples, finishes, and technical components are reviewed until everyone agrees on the final specifications.

Step 5

Production.

Once approved, production begins. Prime Millwork uses high-precision machines, never inexpensive, unreliable tools, to achieve consistent, repeatable accuracy. Traditional methods are applied when and where they provide superior strength or longevity.

Step 6

Installation Coordination.

Installation is scheduled and coordinated with all parties. Because the planning and engineering are meticulous, installation issues are rare.

Step 7

Completion & Client Satisfaction.

Uwe’s goal is simple: no deficiencies. If an issue arises, it is resolved immediately. The true reward for him is the client’s happiness and confidence that they invested in something built to last.

Your Project Deserves More Than a Estimate — It Deserves a Craftsman

Before a single measurement is taken or a drawing is made, Uwe Ackmann wants to understand your project. Not just the dimensions — the intent, the expectations, and the details that will determine whether the finished work truly lasts.

FAQ's.

Do your doors meet or exceed energy rating by governing bodies?

Yes. Performance is the starting point for every door we build. That includes thermal efficiency, proper sealing, and thoughtful protection from the elements. European door construction standards are among the most demanding in the world, and that’s the level we work to. If a project requires specific energy ratings, those requirements are addressed during the design stage so the finished door meets or exceeds them.

Are electronic solutions available?

Yes. We’ve integrated fingerprint readers, powder-coated aluminum hardware, and direct-powered electronic systems into custom doors. Technology is welcome, but only when it’s engineered properly and built to last. If a particular system doesn’t meet that standard, we’ll suggest a more reliable option.

Do the doors come finished?

Yes. Finishing is part of the build process, not something added later. The finish is selected based on the material, the door’s exposure to the elements, and how it needs to perform over time. If a finish fails, the door fails, so choosing the right one from the beginning matters.

Can a door be replaced without a frame?

It depends on the condition and construction of the existing frame. Our doors are built to very precise tolerances, which means the frame must meet the same standard. If the existing frame is suitable, we can work with it. If it isn’t, we’ll explain why, because installing a precision door in a compromised frame defeats the purpose of building it properly.

What is the standard turnaround time for custom door?

Once everything is finalized (measurements, materials, finishes, and design details), production and installation usually take about six weeks. The consultation and design phase happens before that, and we take the time needed to get those details right. Careful planning at the start is what ensures the door fits perfectly and performs exactly as intended.
